Relief as NMA in Anambara state suspends 13-month old strike

There is a great sign of relief as the Nigerian Medical Association in Anambra state suspended its 13-month old strike following an
agreement with the state government
The NMA Chairman in Anambra state, Dr Emmanuel Ekwesianya, said in Awka on Monday that the agreement was arrived at on Monday in the state capital having considered the various pleas of well-meaning people of the state, the association decided not to further subject the people of the state to suffering.
 The chairman further stated that the members of the association had decided to accept the 50 per cent of the Consolidated Salary Structure pending the completion of work of the technical committee setup by the state government to increase the salary.

On a final note, the state chairman however warned that members of the union would be compelled to resume the strike if the government failed to abide by the terms of the agreement.
The chairman have since Tuesday directed all members of the association to return to work.
