The Bishop, Ondo Diocese, Most Revd. G.L. Lasebikan, has said Nigeria like other countries of the world, is making history.
He, however, lamented that while other nations were progressing, Nigeria was busy making history as the most corrupt and perverse nation in the world.
Lasebikan made
the remarks on Tuesday at the special thanksgiving service marking the 50th wedding anniversary of Chief Simeon and Lady Victoria Oguntimehin at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, Molete, Ibadan.
He noted that the country, though blessed with human and natural resources, had lost focus and turned away from God.
Unless the citizens have a change of heart, he said, the nation would continue to grope in the dark.
He said, “Nigeria is writing history as the most corrupt nation in the world. Everything goes in the land. Nigeria is just derailing by the day.
“There is no love in the home, no true love between husbands and wives. Even our children abroad are afraid to come home because of what they are hearing about home.
“The important thing is that we cannot hide the truth in history. The history we write may be good or bad but we should try and do what is good.”
On the wedding anniversary, he said, “God is interested in the number of our lives. When we count our days and all that we experienced and achieved, God is happy because we are giving him the glory.”
Present on the occasion were Mr. Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and wife, Biola; Chief Nathaniel Oke (SAN); First Military Governor of Lagos State, Brig.Gen. Mobolaji Johnson (retd.); Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu; Chief Adekunle Ojora and wife, Ojuolape; former Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and other-related offences Commission, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola; and Sir Bode Akindele.
