Baby Dorcas
IT is a joy for every mother to see her child hale and hearty. But One-and-a-half-year-old
Dorcas Johnson, the first and only child of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Johnson was diagnosed to have a hole in the heart since when she was  only six months old.
According to Gabriel Johnson who lives with his family at No.17, ImoleAyo Ogijo, Ikorodu, Dorcas’ heart condition has affected her growth.
“My daughter was detected to have a hole in the heart when she was six months old. I discovered that she breathed
too fast and at times she fainted and I had to slap her to revive her or shout the name of Jesus. So I took her to OSUTH (Ogun State University     Teaching Hospital), where the doctor prescribed some drugs for her and at times, I used LASUTH (Lagos State University Teaching Hospital) where check up was carried out on her often to monitor the state of her health. It was during the test carried out on her at Lynx DNA Laboratories Limited, Ikeja that it was detected she had a hole in the heart and quick surgery is required so that it will not cause other diseases”.
The doctor’s report recommends quick surgery. But her father works as a machine operator at PZ, Ikorodu, while the mother sells slippers so.
“We find it very difficult to get the money to carry out the surgery; so a friend called mama Busayo introduced us to KANU Heart Foundation... When I got there we were told the surgery will be carried out free but we have to fund the travelling and feeding expenses which will cost roughly N1million. She should have gone for the surgery since July, but due to lack of funds she was unable to go. Another date has been given to us to pay the money so that she can go for the surgery this month or latest early next month.”
Dorcas has to visit the hospital almost weekly, depending on her condition and buying her drugs and “I feel so sad seeing my daughter uncomfortable. That is why am appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to help save the life of my first and only daughter from,” Mrs. Blessing Johnson pleads.
