#Nigeria: President Pardons Mohamed Abacha, withdraws N446.3bn theft, banks on him for Kano votes ahead of #2015elections

It will be recalled that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, on Wednesday withdrew the N446.3bn theft charges instituted against Mohammed Abacha, a son of a former Head of State, the late Gen. Sani Abacha.
The Federal Government had preferred the nine counts of stealing against Abacha in February 2014.

However, Fresh facts have emerged on why the Federal Government withdrew the corruption charges it filed against Mohammed Abacha, son of a former dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha.
It was learnt that the President, who might fly the Peoples Democratic Party flag in the 2015 election, had been prevailed upon to support Mohammed to also pick the PDP governorship ticket in Kano Sate. Mohammed was almost clinching the ticket of the defunct....
Congress for Progressives Change in 2011 when it was truncated.
The then CPC leadership had reasoned that it would be inappropriate for him to run for the office of a governor because of the numerous cases of corruption on his neck.
Mohammed had been accused of receiving stolen funds worth N100.38bn, but the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Adoke Mohammed (SAN), applied to a Federal Capital Territory High Court on Wednesday to withdraw the charge.
A Presidency source said, “You know that Mohammed has since defected to the ruling party(PDP). We know he is popular in his home state, Kano.
“This is season of politics and we are ready to play it. Mohammed is a popular person in his state. If he can win election for us there, why not?”
